Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital Designated an Aetna Institute of Quality® Bariatric Surgery Facility
Darby, Pa. (February 24, 2012) – Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital, a member of Mercy Health System, has been designated an Aetna Institute of Quality Bariatric Surgery Facility for treating individuals living with morbid, or extreme, obesity.
Aetna makes information about the quality and cost of health care services available to its members to help them make informed decisions about their health care needs. In line with this goal, Aetna recognizes hospitals and facilities in its network that offer specialized clinical services for certain health conditions. Facilities are selected for consistently delivering evidence-based, safe care.
“We are delighted to receive this designation from Aetna as a testament to our dedication to clinical excellence and patient-centered care,” said Prashanth Ramachandra, MD, clinical director, Mercy Bariatrics. “We believe it’s our multi-disciplinary approach to treating bariatrics patients that sets Mercy Bariatrics apart from other programs, and we congratulate our team of professionals on this recognition.”
Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital is a pillar of the Mercy Bariatrics program at Mercy Health System. The program originated at the hospital and recently expanded its services to include Nazareth Hospital in Northeast Philadelphia.
The bariatric team at Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital includes physicians, dietitians, physical therapists, sleep specialists, nurses and clinicians specially trained to address the multi-faceted needs of bariatric patients. A full range of bariatric surgical services are available to patients including gastric banding, gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy and revisional surgery.
In addition to receiving designation as an Aetna Institute of Quality Bariatric Surgery Facility, Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital is also a designated Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence® by the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS), and a Blue Distinction Center for Bariatric Surgery® by Independence Blue Cross.
