Nazareth Hospital Receives $17,000 Grant for Breast Cancer Education from Ladies of Port Richmond
NORTHEAST PHILADELPHIA (December 14, 2012): On December 6, the Ladies of Port Richmond presented Nazareth Hospital with a $17,000 grant for breast cancer education and awareness. The money will be used to provide a variety of activities to raise the public’s awareness of breast cancer.
The Ladies of Port Richmond raise funds to increase Breast Cancer awareness through education; and help fund research to find a Breast Cancer cure in our lifetime.
“The energy and dedication the Ladies bring to their year-round fundraising efforts, and their ability to mobilize and engage the community is truly inspiring,” said Nancy Cherone, Executive Director/Administrator, Nazareth Hospital. “We at Nazareth Hospital are honored to receive this generous grant, which will allow us to expand our efforts to educate the community about breast cancer and the importance of early detection.”
One of the Ladies’ largest fundraising events of the year is their breast cancer walk, which is scheduled for Sunday, May 19, 2013. The 2012 walk drew over 600 participants.
“Moving forward we plan to encourage younger women and men to participate in our breast cancer walk and other educational opportunities, this segment of the population is often overlooked but is still affected by breast cancer,” said Mary Lou Leuters, President of the Ladies of Port Richmond.
Nazareth Hospital, a member of the Jefferson Kimmel Cancer Network, offers leading-edge diagnostics such as digital mammography and PET/CT, and provides patients with cancer access to skilled medical oncologists, advanced radiation oncology technology including image-guided radiation therapy, surgical oncology, and infusion services.
