New Retail Pharmacy Opens at Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital
Patients and employees to benefit from convenient services and location
Darby, PA (August 28, 2012): Mercy Health System officially opened the doors to a new retail pharmacy in the Sister Marie Lenahan Wellness Center, on Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital’s campus, during a special ribbon-cutting and blessing ceremony today.
Mercy Pharmacy, the first retail drug store owned by Mercy Health System, offers prescription services, private consultations with pharmacists, as well as over-the-counter medications and common medical supplies for sale at competitive prices. The 1,764 square-foot pharmacy is stocked with a range of products from vitamins to toiletries, to first-aid items and diabetic supplies, to crutches, canes and bedside commodes.
“Mercy Pharmacy is an exciting new venture that brings patient care and service to the next level,” said David D. Clark, chief executive officer of Mercy Health System. “Many patients leaving the hospital or emergency rooms often have prescriptions to fill. By having a retail pharmacy on site on one of our largest hospital campuses, we can offer a convenient and very accessible option for patients, visitors and staff.”
The Mercy Pharmacy is a part of Mercy Health System’s new care coordination initiative that aims to provide patient and family-focused care, from prevention to treatment and follow-up to home care.
“High-quality health care revolves around the delivery of the right care, at the right time. Our goal is to prevent any delays in patient care, both in and out of the hospital setting,” says Kathryn Conallen, chief executive officer and senior vice president of acute care operations for Mercy Health System. “Mercy Pharmacy enhances our efforts in ensuring there are no barriers for our patients to have a successful recovery, especially with getting the medications they need.”
For employees of the health system, Mercy Pharmacy fills prescriptions and offers convenient delivery to their work location or delivery to their home.
Prescriptions can be called into or faxed to Mercy Pharmacy by the patient’s physician or dropped off at the pharmacy. Physicians can also send in new prescriptions by electronic prescribing. Prescriptions for maintenance medications, such as a 90-day supply, can also be mailed to the patient’s home. Online refills are available at www.mercypharmacy.org.
Mercy Pharmacy is on the first floor of the Sister Marie Lenahan Wellness Center, located at 1503 Lansdowne Avenue. It is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. – 6 p.m. Most prescription drug plans are accepted, including PACE and Medicare drug coverage. To contact the Mercy Pharmacy, call 610.237.7330.
