(left to right, front row): Director of Clinical Operations Frances Garbarino; Podiatric Surgeon Joseph Rondeau, DPM; MFH Chief Human Resource Officer John Cigler; MFH Vice President of Mission Integration Sister Donna Watto, RSM; and Advanced Wound Care Center Director Chanel Carbino, RN.Darby, PA (November 4, 2013): The Advanced Wound Care Center at Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital hosted an Open House and Blessing on Wednesday, October 30 to showcase its new and larger location within the main hospital.

“At Mercy Fitzgerald, we pride ourselves on providing accessible quality and compassionate care to all of our patients,” stated Vice President of Mission Integration Sister Donna Watto, RSM. “When the Advanced Wound Care Center relocated from the Medical Office Building across the street to the main hospital, it was done with one main purpose in mind: improved accessibility and convenience of wound care services for our patients.”

State Representative Joe Hackett and President of the Delaware County Chamber of Commerce Alex Charlton were joined by many Mercy Fitzgerald physicians, nurses and colleagues who also attended the open house.
In early September, the Advanced Wound Care Center at Mercy Fitzgerald officially relocated from its original location within the Medical Office Building across the street, to a larger unit located on the second floor of the main hospital.

The new location now provides patients with easier access to wound care services, while also providing physicians with quicker access to patients. The larger space also offers a more comfortable patient waiting area and additional examination rooms, helping to expedite patient wait times.

“The move to a larger, more centralized location within the hospital is a true advantage for our patients,” said Medical Director and Podiatric Surgeon William Urbas, DPM. “The new space provides us with additional exam rooms, so we are able to see more patients at once, shortening their overall wait time.” He continued, “It also allows us to make the care process much more efficient since we, as caregivers, can get to our patients much more quickly and provide them the individualized care that they deserve."

The Advanced Wound Care Center at Mercy Fitzgerald provides a comprehensive medical approach to treating non-healing and diabetic wounds, offering therapies proven to reduce healing time, improve healing rates and prevent possible limb loss.

With state-of-the-art capabilities such as surgical interventions, bio-engineered skin substitutes, vacuum assisted closure, dressing/compression wraps, referrals for vascular studies or off loading, nutritional and diabetic support, the Advanced Wound Care Center provides patients with the treatment they need to improve healing and quality of life. The center can also offer evaluations for and access to hyperbaric oxygen treatment.

The multidisciplinary team of specialists, led by Medical Director and Podiatric Surgeon William Urbas, DPM, includes Podiatric Surgeon Joseph Rondeau, DPM, Podiatric Surgeon Michelle Oliver, DPM and Surgeon Orlando Castillo, MD.
