Mercy Philadelphia Hospital Designated a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence
West Philadelphia, PA (October 16, 2013): Mercy Philadelphia Hospital (MPH) has been designated a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology (ACR).
By awarding facilities the status of a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence, the ACR recognizes breast imaging centers that have earned accreditation in mammography, stereotactic breast biopsy, and breast ultrasound (including ultrasound-guided breast biopsy).
“Being designated a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence means that Mercy Philadelphia Hospital provides convenient access to first-rate women’s imaging services within the community,” says Radiologist and Women’s Imaging Specialist Caroline Ho, MD. “This recognition also validates our commitment to providing the highest quality of care when it comes to the detection, prevention, and treatment of breast cancer.”
Peer-review evaluations, conducted in each breast imaging modality by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field, have determined that MPH has achieved high practice standards in image quality, personnel qualifications, facility equipment, quality control procedures, and quality assurance programs.
Mercy Philadelphia Hospital provides a complete range of diagnostic procedures which include digital mammography, breast ultrasound, breast MRI, needle localization, and minimally invasive breast biopsies (including MRI Guided, Stereotactic Guided and Ultrasound Guided Biopsies).
MPH provides convenient patient appointments which include Saturday, evening, same-day and next day appointments. Same-day results are available for diagnostic mammograms.
Additionally, MPH now offers Walk-In Screening Mammograms every Thursday between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Women, ages 35 and older who are due for a mammogram can stop by MPH’s radiology department, located on the ground floor of the Medical Office Building, and get screened during walk-in hours without an appointment. Women just need to bring their physician prescription, insurance card and photo ID.
The ACR is a national professional organization serving more than 36,000 diagnostic/interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists, nuclear medicine physicians, and medical physicists with programs focusing on the practice of medical imaging and radiation oncology and the delivery of comprehensive health care services.
