Nazareth Hospital Offers Free Screening and Education During Stroke Awareness Month
Northeast Philadelphia, PA (April 25, 2013): During Stroke Awareness Month in May, Nazareth Hospital offers free education and screening to help people learn how to reduce their risk of stroke and heart attack. Free stroke risk assessments will be available between 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. every Wednesday in May in Nazareth Hospital’s Main Lobby at 2601 Holme Avenue. No appointment is required.
"As a nationally certified Primary Stroke Center, Nazareth Hospital is committed to providing excellent care for patients with stroke," said Nancy Cherone, Executive Director of Nazareth Hospital. "Because we are leaders in stroke care, it's important for us to educate our community to recognize the signs and symptoms of stroke. If you experience the signs and symptoms of stroke, call 9-1-1 right away. Any delay in getting treatment can reduce your chance of a good outcome."
The signs and symptoms of stroke include these suddenly occurring symptoms: Numbness or weakness of the face, arm or leg; confusion, trouble speaking or understanding; trouble walking, dizziness or loss of balance or coordination; trouble seeing in one or both eyes; and severe headache with no known cause.
Nazareth Hospital, a nationally certified Primary Stroke Center, was named one of America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Stroke Care by Healthgrades, earned the American Stroke Association's Get With The Guidelines Gold Plus Award in 2012 and 2013, has been the recipient of the HealthGrades Stroke Care Excellence AwardTM many times (2006, 2008, 2009, 2012, 2013), and has been five-star rated for treatment of stroke 11 consecutive years.
