Two Mercy Health System Hospitals Earn ‘A’ Grade for Patient Safety in Leapfrog’s Fall 2015 Hospital Safety Score

CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa., November 2, 2015 – Two Mercy Health System hospitals, Mercy Philadelphia and Mercy Suburban, both earned ‘A’ grades in the Fall 2015 Leapfrog Group national ratings program, recognizing the hospitals’ strong commitment to patient safety.

“Patient safety is the top priority at our Mercy Health System hospitals and this recognition speaks to our habit of excellence in providing patients with safe and high-quality care,” said Kathy Conallen, senior vice president and CEO of Mercy Health System’s acute care operations. “We are committed to continually improving patient safety and participate in a number of initiatives, such as focusing on early identification of and aggressive treatment of sepsis, falls prevention, hand washing compliance, and medication education, just to name a few.”

The Hospital Safety Score is compiled under the guidance of patient safety experts and administered by The Leapfrog Group, a national, independent nonprofit. The Leapfrog grade ratings are just one tool that patients can use to give consumers information to protect themselves and their families when facing a hospital stay.

“Mercy Philadelphia and Mercy Suburban’s ‘A’ grades are a powerful reminder of Mercy’s commitment to putting patient safety above all else, and we are pleased to recognize the persistent efforts of their clinicians and staff to protect their patients,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of the Leapfrog Group.
