Osteopathic Internal Medicine Residency Curriculum

The Osteopathic Internal Medicine Residency at Mercy Catholic Medical Center (MCMC), comprising Mercy Fitzgerald and Mercy Philadelphia Hospitals, offers a wide array of clinical and didactic educational experiences.

A robust lecture series augments a structured group of rotations aimed at fulfilling American Osteopathic Association requirements and preparing the resident for independent practice in primary care, hospital medicine, or further medical subspecialty training. Residents rotate through 13, four-week rotation blocks per academic year. Here is how the resident rotation schedule is arranged, by training year:

OGME-1

Internal Medicine Wards – 5.5 blocks
Internal Medicine Night Float – 1 block
Medical Intensive Care Unit - 2 blocks
Surgical Intensive Care Unit – 1 block
Emergency Medicine – 1 block
Cardiology – 1 block
Women’s Health – 1 block
Ambulatory Care – ½ day clinic per week
Vacation – 3 weeks

OGME-2

Internal Medicine Wards – 4 blocks
Internal Medicine Night Float – 1.5 blocks
Medical Intensive Care Unit – 1 block
Admitting Officer – 1 block
Elective – 1 block
Ambulatory Care – 1.5 blocks and ½ day clinic per week
Gastroenterology – 1 block
Rheumatology – 1 block
Vacation – 4 weeks

OGME-3

Internal Medicine Wards  - 2 blocks
Internal Medicine Consult Service – 1 block
Medical Intensive Care Unit – 1 block
Admitting Officer – 1 block
Hematology-Oncology – 1 block
Endocrinology – 1 block
Pulmonary Medicine -  1 block
Infectious Disease – 1 block
Neurology – 1 block
Ambulatory Care – 1 block and ½ day clinic per week
Elective – 1 block
Vacation – 4 weeks
