Graduate Medical Education at Mercy Suburban Hospital
Mercy Suburban Hospital offers attentive high-quality education for osteopathic students, interns and residents within a community hospital environment. Mercy Suburban offers American Osteopathic Association accredited residency training programs in four specialties: Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, General Surgery and Podiatry. Acceptance in a first-year position is an acceptance into the residency. Mercy Suburban also offers an Osteopathic Traditional Rotating Internship which provides interns with an exceptional educational experience giving trainees the clinical tools they need to succeed in other residency programs. Graduates from our Traditional Rotating Internship have gone on to do residencies in specialties such as Anesthesia, Orthopedics, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, etc.
The hospital is strongly affiliated with the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM) and its Osteopathic Postdoctoral Training Institutions (OPTI). The hospital is further affiliated with several other osteopathic colleges. Mercy Suburban is the exclusive site for the PCOM family practice residency.
Mercy Suburban has had active undergraduate and post-graduate training programs for over 60 years. From our beginning in 1944 as Riverview Osteopathic Hospital to the present medical campus in East Norriton, Mercy Suburban has built its reputation upon a foundation of comprehensive high-quality services tailored to meet the medical needs of our patients. Mercy Suburban trainees work closely with the hospital's teaching faculty.
Trainees will be exposed to a vast array of medical services in our state-of-the-art facility which includes a Women's Health Center, Mercy Suburban Cancer Center, the Mercy Suburban Family Medicine Clinic, and the Wound Care Center. From the esoteric to the common medical conditions that are the clinical foundation of every trainee's education, Mercy Suburban will provide you with an excellent experience.
Many of our graduates continue to practice either at Mercy Suburban or in the immediate area. Some of the areas of medicine that MSH graduates have stayed at MSH to join the staff and teaching faculty include:
