Internships and Externships
Mercy Suburban Hospital provides wide-ranging graduate inpatient education and excellent ambulatory experiences for interns through the hospitals community-based Family Practice Center, active GYN Center and busy Emergency Department. Both traditional and specialty internships are available, with specialty track internships meeting AOA requirements for use as the first year of residency in Family Practice, Internal Medicine and Gynecology. There are 18 approved positions.
Academic and clinical teaching include daily Morning Report and Morning Lecture, frequent lunch time lectures and grand rounds, and daily rounds with your attending physicians on your service. Competence is assured in the performance of many clinical procedures. The atmosphere and interrelationships between trainees and faculty provide a comfortable learning environment. Peer relations are encouraged to elevate the learning experiences of interns and residents. At the completion of PGY1, interns are competent and confident to enter their chosen residency.
Benefits include annual stipend, health and life insurance, book and PDA stipend, workers compensation, malpractice insurance, lab coats, paid membership in AOA and POMA, and six paid holidays.
Clerkships are available to junior and senior students. These programs fulfill the needs of students to acquire the clinical skills required in the fields of general and specialized surgery, internal medicine and its sub-specialties: family practice, gynecology, pediatrics, psychiatry, anesthesiology and radiology. Outpatient experience is also provided. Positions are filled on an assigned, as well as elective, basis for students from all osteopathic colleges.
