Curriculum

The professional curriculum offered by the Nazareth Hospital School of Nurse Anesthesiology consists of practical education through our clinical affiliations and thorough academic experience in the following areas:

  • Professional Aspects of Nurse Anesthesiology
  • Anatomy, Physiology and Pathophysiology
  • Chemistry, Biochemistry and Physics
  • Pharmacology
  • Basic and Advanced Principles of Anesthesia Practice
  • Patient Care Conferences, Seminars and Journal Club

The hospital academic portion of the study of Nurse Anesthesiology will consist of more than 500 hours of lecture. These credits can be transferred to St. Josephs University for a total of 33 credits. The core courses (33 credits) are taught by Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists, Anesthesiologists and faculty at the hospital sites. The program on the clinical level provides a broad variety and a balanced clinical experience to augment student learning.

Saint Joseph's University Academic Curriculum

After a student's acceptance to Nazareth's School of Nurse Anesthesiology, the candidate, along with the Program Director of the School of Nurse Anesthesiology, will complete the application process for Saint Joseph's University. The MS in Nurse Anesthesia is offered in conjunction with Nazareth Hospital School of Nurse Anesthesiology. It is designed for nurses who desire to study the educative and administrative aspects of healthcare as well as focus on the science of Anesthesiology. The curriculum at the University comprises 6 courses (18 credits):

Clinical Affiliations

Students are afforded affiliations respectively in each of the following areas:

  • Cardiothoracic Anesthesia
  • Pediatric Anesthesia
  • Regional Anesthesia
  • Obstetric Anesthesia

During the total affiliation, the student will be responsible for his/her transportation, white lab coat, OR shoes, precordial stethoscope and attendant fees such as lunch fees or parking fees. In addition, if necessary, the student must return to Nazareth for class on designated class day, the specific day of which varies annually. The student is responsible for procuring a Pennsylvania and New Jersey State Nursing License.
