Physician Advisor (PA)
The physician advisor (PA) is responsible for managing the efficiency of care delivered at the organization, and is accountable to the hospital’s executive team, specifically the Associate Chief Medical Officer. The Physician Advisor works with the medical staff leadership, the attending medical staff, the hospital-based physicians, and the functional areas of case management, social work, discharge planning, and utilization and resource management to develop and implement methods to optimize use of hospital services for all patients while also ensuring the value of care provided. This includes working collaboratively to ensure patients are in the correct status/level of care; reducing length of hospital stay where appropriate, increasing throughput, and ensuring the appropriate use of diagnostic and therapeutic modalities based on evidence-based care.
The Physician Advisor is responsible for assisting the hospital to challenge medical management practices in order to achieve the organization’s desired quality/ patient safety and resource management goals. The Physician Advisor accomplishes this through direct engagement of the medical staff and by contributing pertinent documentation to a provider’s quality profile. The Physician Advisor is an active member of the hospital’s Utilization Review Committee and functions in accordance with the CMS Hospital Conditions of Participation for Utilization Review and other applicable regulatory/compliance and accrediting requirements.
This position is a full time position. In addition, the Physician Advisor will provide call coverage 50% of the time, with the remaining 50% of call coverage hours being allocated to the ACMO or other physicians, as may be assigned by the applicable Hospital.

Minimum Job Requirements/Experience:
- MD/DO degree with current licensure
- Completion of specialty residency—preferably in internal medicine—with subsequent board certification.
- Five year experience in a hospital-based or medical staff committee work involving quality management, utilization review/ resource management, or medical staff governance.
- Knowledge of current medical literature, research methodology, healthcare delivery systems and regulations, and healthcare financial/reimbursement issues.
- Direct experience with Health Plan/Payer Utilization Review
