Walk-in screening mammograms at Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital Women’s Imaging Suite
No appointment needed for walk-in screening mammograms at Mercy Fitzgerald.
“I simply decided today was the day.”
Those are just a few of the comments you’ll hear from women dropping by Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital’s Women’s Imaging Suite on Thursdays for a walk-in screening mammogram.
Since its debut last October, the walk-in program for screening mammograms has exceeded the expectations of the community, Mercy Fitzgerald physicians, and even Lisa Curtin, RT (R) (ARRT), clinical manager of the Department of Radiology.
“We knew that busy women would like the convenience of coming in without an appointment,” Lisa says. “What we didn’t fully realize was how much being able to just walk in reduces the anxiety some women feel when they look ahead to a mammogram appointment. Being able to say, ‘I’m doing this today,’ takes the stress away.”
Physicians are also enthusiastic about the program, since they know they can send patients for a mammogram every Thursday without missing a beat.
“Although the program started during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Mercy Fitzgerald cares about everyday awareness,” says Lisa. “We want every woman to have the opportunity to take care of herself all year long.”
