Protect your skin from the sun
After the dark days of winter, it’s always good to see the sun. Who doesn’t enjoy that wonderful warmth on their skin?
As you turn your face to the sun, however, keep this fact in mind: The sun causes skin cancer. And color doesn’t matter—everyone is at risk.
Here are steps you should take to keep your skin safe.
Use sunscreen. Choose a broad-spectrum sunscreen that’s also water-resistant. It should have an SPF of at least 30 and protect against both UVA and UVB rays. Apply a generous amount about 15 minutes before you go outside. Make sure you reach all exposed skin—from the tip of your nose to the tops of your feet.
Reapply sunscreen at least every two hours. Apply more often if you’re sweating a lot.
Wear clothing that helps shield your skin. Choose a wide-brimmed hat, a long-sleeved shirt and long pants. Sunglasses can help protect both your eyes and the surrounding skin.
