Preventing stroke and heart attack with CT scanning
Early detection of cardiovascular disease can be the key to preventing heart attack and stroke. At Nazareth Hospital’s Heart and Vascular Center, our compassionate and caring cardiologists and radiologists have access to the most up-to-date diagnostic technology. A multidetector computed tomography (CT) scanner provides fast, high-resolution imaging, giving a highly accurate view of the blood vessels—including those in the heart. This allows them to pinpoint potentially dangerous cardiovascular problems.
CT angiography is a technique that uses a contrast dye injected into a vein. The study is performed in a single breath hold, consisting of a few heartbeats. The resulting computerized images can help identify blockages such as plaque buildup in the arteries and other abnormalities that may limit blood flow to the heart and brain. Nazareth also offers time-tested cardiac catheterization when needed.
CT angiography and cardiac catheterization are performed in the Heart and Vascular Center by Nazareth’s highly trained radiologists and cardiologists. The center offers care focused on identification, prevention and treatment of early-stage heart disease.
