Cancer Support and Survivorship Groups 

The Mercy Cancer Care team understands that your emotional well-being of is vital to your physical recovery. We know that sharing concerns, knowledge and experiences with others who have had similar experiences can help patients feel that they are not alone. 

We offer special classes and programs to improve the overall quality of life for people currently in treatment and to support cancer survivors and their families during the diagnosis, treatment and recovery. 

General Cancer Support Groups

At Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital in Darby, Delaware County:

  • Meets the first Wednesday of the month from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. in the Cancer Resource Room.

At Mercy Suburban Hospital in East Norriton, Montgomery County:

  • Meets the second Wednesday of the month from 2:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. at the Mercy Cancer Center.

At Mercy Philadelphia Hospital in West Philadelphia:

  • Meets the last Thursday of the month from 2:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. in executive dining room next to the vending machines near the first floor cafeteria.

At Nazareth Hospital in Northeast Philadelphia:

  • Meets the third Tuesday of the month from 7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. in the seventh floor Rehabilitation Conference Room. 

Specialized Cancer Support Groups and Programs

At Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital:

  • The Prostate Support Group meets the third Wednesday of the month from 10:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. in the Cancer Resource Room.

At Mercy Suburban Hospital:

  • The Breast Cancer Support Group meets the second Thursday of the month from 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. in the Mercy Cancer Center. 

Look Good, Feel Better

In this free program, sponsored by the American Cancer Society, cancer patients and survivors can meet with a trained and registered cosmologist to learn beauty techniques to help combat appearance-related side effects of cancer treatment. 

The cosmetologist will provide helpful information on how you can cope with skin changes and hair loss due to chemotherapy or radiation by using cosmetics and skin care products. Free cosmetic kits will be provided, and are available in light, medium, dark and very dark shades to enhance all complexion types. 

At Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital in Darby, Delaware County:

  • Meets the third Wednesday of every other “even-numbered” month from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. in the Cancer Resource Room.

At Mercy Suburban Hospital in East Norriton, Montgomery County:

  • Meets the fourth Monday of every other “odd-numbered” month from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. in the Mercy Cancer Center. Please call 1.800.227.2345 to register. Registration is required.  

Wigs for Cancer

In addition, in conjunction with the American Cancer Society, Mercy Suburban offers a wig bank and Mercy Fitzgerald offers both a wig and a bra bank. Both hospitals provide these items free of charge to cancer patients and survivors.
