Cancer Support and Survivorship Groups 

The Mercy Cancer Care team understands that your emotional well-being is vital to your physical recovery. We know that sharing concerns, knowledge and experiences with others who have had similar experiences can help patients feel that they are not alone. 

We offer special classes and programs to improve the overall quality of life for people currently in treatment and to support cancer survivors and their families during the diagnosis, treatment and recovery. 

General Cancer Support Groups

At Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital in Darby, Delaware County:

  • Meets the first Wednesday of the month from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. in the Cancer Resource Room.

At Mercy Suburban Hospital in East Norriton, Montgomery County:

  • Meets the first Tuesday of the month from 4:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. at in the Mercy Cancer Center Conference Room. For more information, please call Kara Cruz, MSW, LSW, at 610.278.2507.

At Mercy Philadelphia Hospital in West Philadelphia:

  • Meets the fourth Thursday of the month (except holidays) from 2:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. in McAuley Conference Room. For more information, call 215.879.7733.

At Nazareth Hospital in Northeast Philadelphia:

  • Meets the third Tuesday of the month from 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. in the Seventh Floor Rehab Conference Room. For more information, call 215.335.6324.

Specialized Cancer Support Groups and Programs

At Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital:

  • The Men’s Cancer Support Group meets the third Wednesday of the month from 10:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. in the Cancer Center Resource Room (Ground Floor). For more information, call 610.237.2648.

  • The Women’s Cancer Support Group meets the first Wednesday of the month from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. in the Cancer Center Resource Room (Ground Floor). For more information, call 610.237.2648.

At Mercy Suburban Hospital:

  • The Breast Cancer Support Group meets the second Wednesday of the month from 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. in the Mercy Cancer Center Conference Room. For more information, please call Kara Cruz, MSW, LSW, at 610.278.2507.

Look Good, Feel Better

This free program, sponsored by the American Cancer Society, patients with cancer and survivors meet with a trained and registered cosmologist to learn beauty techniques to help combat the appearance-related side effects of cancer treatment. 

The cosmetologist provides helpful information on how you can cope with skin changes and hair loss due to chemotherapy or radiation by using cosmetics and skin care products. Free cosmetic kits are provided, and are available in light, medium, dark and very dark shades to enhance all complexion types.

  • Meets the third Monday of every other “odd-numbered” month from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. in the Mercy Cancer Center Conference Room. Please call Kara Cruz at 610.278.2507 to register. Registration is required.

Coping with Cancer through Art

Art therapy is a free alternative and adjunctive treatment that can help increase relaxation, reduce stress, and decrease pain and fatigue. Facilitated by our credentialed art therapist, the program is an informal group where you are encouraged to explore and express yourself using art materials. The group is open to individuals in active treatment and those who have completed therapy. Structured projects will also be available. Artistic ability is not necessary to participate.

Coping with Cancer through Art meets:

  • Second Monday of every month, 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Mercy Cancer Center at Mercy Suburban Hospital Cancer Center Conference Room, 2701 DeKalb Pike, East Norriton, PA 19401. Registration for the program is recommended.
