Are You at Risk

The American Heart Association has identified several risk factors associated with developing heart disease. Major risk factors have been shown to significantly increase the risk of developing heart disease.

Some risk factors can be modified, treated or controlled and others cannot. However, the more risk factors you have, the greater your chance of developing heart disease.

Risk factors that cant be changed

  • Increasing Age
  • Gender
  • Heredity (including race)

Major risk factors that can be modified, treated, or controlled by changing your lifestyle or taking medicine

  • Smoking
  • High blood cholesterol
  • High blood pressure
  • Physical inactivity
  • Obesity and overweight
  • Diabetes Mellitus
