He is a graduate of Jefferson Medical College and completed his medical residency and cardiology fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.

Dr. Hunn says:

“At the Mercy Valve Center, we take pride in dealing with the whole patient. We value the heart team approach, and we work in tandem with our cardiothoracic surgical team on behalf of our patients.  We review all potential therapeutic options and offer a diagnostic treatment strategy to  our patients, their families, and our referral partners. We pride ourselves on being able to work closely with our patients through the entire process, including accurate  diagnosis, treatment, and recovery.

Through our collaboration with Penn Cardiac Care, we can direct appropriate patients in a timely fashion for percutaneous valve interventions, including transcatheter aortic valve replacement.

The Mercy Valve Center embodies all the virtues in medicine which motivated me to become a cardiologist many years ago: Being able to offer life changing and life-saving care, but never losing sight of the goal of finding the best treatment for each individual patient.”

Steven J. Weiss, MD

Dr. Steven WeissPenn Cardiovascular Surgeon Steven Weiss, MD leads the heart surgery program at Mercy Health System.Dr. Weiss is a board-certified cardiothoracic surgeon with more than 20 years of experience and has performed more than 3,000 open heart surgeries.

Dr. Weiss was one of the first heart surgeons in the Philadelphia area to perform mitral valve repairs in the 1980s. He has extensive experience in complex, minimally invasive valve repair and replacement.

Prior to joining Mercy, Dr. Weiss practiced at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, where he completed a fellowship in advanced CT surgery techniques, including robotic surgery. Dr. Weiss says:

“I’ve had the privilege of helping patients restore their health, following successful heart valve surgery. It is tremendously satisfying to collaborate with Mercy cardiologists, nurses and clinicians to determine what is best for each patient. We have discovered a significant population in our community who are suffering from undertreated valve disease and whose symptoms may be not recognized or are attributed to other reasons, such as aging. The fact is, valve disease can be fixed. And once fixed, it can prevent serious problems such as chronic heart failure. I’m committed to helping these patients receive the proper and most advanced treatment, and ultimately, achieve a better quality of life.”
