Senior Behavioral Health Program
The Senior Behavioral Health Unit at Mercy Suburban Hospital is Montgomery County's premier provider of geriatric neuropsychiatric services in a true medical setting. The unit admits patients over 55 years of age who are struggling with emotional and/or behavioral problems, which may or may not be related to cognitive decline.
Established in 1998, Senior Behavioral Health offers a full spectrum of diagnostic and treatment services to stabilize patients who have medical and behavioral health problems. Our goal is to treat the emotional, physical and spiritual needs of each individual. Our mission is to respect the integrity and dignity of all.
Programs
Senior Behavioral Health provides a multidisciplinary milieu where professionals include psychiatrists, psychologists, psychiatric nurses, med-surg nurses, social workers, activities therapists and CNAs. The daily program is structured in a manner which fosters social interaction and independence.
We educate patients and families concerning their illnesses and their medications. We provide discharge planning as necessary, and utilize various partial programs, senior adult activity centers and home care nurses as appropriate at discharge. We also provide on site staff development and continuing education conferences throughout the year.
The Alzheimer's Association Caregivers Support Group meets the second Thursday of each month.
Insurance
Mercy Suburban Hospital accepts Medicare and most third party insurers.
