An umbilical Hernia is the protrusion of an organ that occurs around the navel. It’s most common in women, during or after pregnancy.
What Causes an Umbilical Hernia?
An umbilical hernia can be caused by too much abdominal pressure caused by pregnancy. Other causes can also include obesity, multiple pregnancies, fluid in the abdominal cavity and/or previous abdominal surgery.
Symptoms of an Umbilical Hernia
Watch for the following signs of a possible umbilical hernia:
- Soft swelling or bulge near the navel
- Discomfort at the site of the bulge
Umbilical Hernia Treatments
Your doctor may suggest umbilical hernia surgery. In this procedure, an incision is made and the protrusion or bulge is returned to the abdominal cavity.
