Vein Center
Nazareth Hospital Vein Center helps restore blood flow to your legs and feet. At the Vein Center, interventional radiologists perform laser ablation (Endovenous Laser Treatment or EVLT) and chemical endovenous ablation (also known as sclerotherapy) to treat varicose veins, spider veins and other chronic conditions related to poor vein circulation.
These minimally invasive procedures can be performed on an outpatient basis, usually in less than an hour. For patients, the procedures offer such benefits as quick recovery, no scarring and rapid relief of symptoms.
Chronic venous insufficiency of the legs affects half of the U.S. population --50 to 55% of women and 40 to 45% of men. Of these, 20 to 25% of the women and 10 to 15% of men will have visible varicose veins. Risk factors include age, family history, female gender, obesity, sedentary lifestyle, and multiple pregnancies.
Symptoms of chronic venous insufficiency include aching leg pain, easy leg fatigue, and leg heaviness, which grow worse over the course of the day. In more severe cases, venous insufficiency can cause skin discoloration and ulcers.
