Advanced Wound Care and Hyperbarics Center
The Advanced Wound Care and Hyperbarics Center at Mercy Suburban Hospital was developed to provide patients with the latest treatments and therapies to encourage optimal healing.
A multidisciplinary team including vascular surgeons, podiatric specialists, and plastic surgeons collaborate to salvage limbs and heal wounds once thought untreatable.
Treatment plans, which include patient education, nutrition, and physical therapy are tailored to meet the individualized needs of each patient and may also include:
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy
The Center often uses hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HbOT), a medical treatment carried out in a pressurized chamber utilizing 100% oxygen, which leads to increased oxygen in the tissues. HbOT also enhances the body's natural healing and strengthens the immune system, in which the patient rests inside a pressurized chamber breathing 100% oxygen.
Our physician panel works with nationally certified wound, ostomy and continence nurses and HbOT-certified technicians to help patients with:
- Diabetic wounds
- Arterial/ischemic wounds
- Collagen vascular disease
- Non-healing surgical sites
- Venous stasis
- Pressure Sores or Ulcers
- Radiation soft-tissue injuries
The Center also offers an easy referral process; ongoing and regular communication with and progress updates for referring physicians; and free transportation for patients.
The wound care team is lead by Dr. John Flanagan, Medical Director of the Center. He is joined Dr. Gordon Clement and Ann Ashton, RN, who serve as the Center’s Program Director and Manager, respectively. Together this team bring with them 60 years of wound care experience.
