Notice for Health Partners Members

Recently Health Partners of Philadelphia, Inc. notified Mercy Health System that it was terminating our current hospital contracts. Contract termination means that, except in cases of a medical emergency, Health Partners will not authorize its members to receive services at our hospitals, therefore our employed physician practices also have been terminated. The Health Partners termination effective dates are:

Termination effective July 15, 2011  All Employed Physician Practices

Mercy Health System does not wish to stop our participation in Health Partners. While we will try our best to have Health Partners rescind this termination, we want to ensure that our patients and their families, our physicians, their office staff and our colleagues are well informed and prepared in the event termination goes into effect.

What can patients do? You have the right to change Health Plans.

Our hope is to be able to continue to provide quality and compassionate care to our patients and their families. Health Partners members have the right to change their health plan; our hospitals and employed physician practices participate with all four of the other Health Choices Plans in our area (Aetna Better Health, Coventry Cares, Keystone Mercy Health Plan and United Community Health Care, formerly AmeriChoice). After selecting a new health plan, it may take 2 - 6 weeks for the change to take effect. You can change plans by contacting the Health Choices enrollment office:

The termination effective date may be extended for a limited time for certain patients until their course of care is completed. We will be following the Department of Health, Department of Insurance, Department of Public Welfare and all other state and federal laws during this transition. Until the effective date of termination, our participation with Health Partners remains in effect and Health Partners' members can continue to have their services covered at our hospitals or by our employed physician practices. In no event will we turn away any patient needing emergency care, either before or after this termination goes into effect.

However, as of the effective date of termination Health Partners may no longer cover non-emergency services at our hospitals or by our employed physician practices. It is a privilege for us to provide care to you and your family, and we hope to be able to continue to do so in the future.
