Nazareth Hospital Announces Third Annual Nursing Excellence Award Winners
NORTHEAST PHILADELPHIA (June 1, 2012): During National Nurses’ Week, Nazareth Hospital recognized the winners of its third annual Nursing Excellence Awards. Interim CEO Nancy Cherone and Interim Chief Nursing Officer Maurita Cowan presented the awards on May 10 at a ceremony at the hospital.
Nursing Excellence Award winners were nominated by their peers and evaluated according to specific criteria by a selection committee. Honorees include:
Award of Excellence in Nursing Practice: Aney Parackel, RN. This award is presented to the Registered Nurse who demonstrates excellence in nursing practice and delivers compassionate, person-centered care by applying knowledge of evidence-based practice guidelines, critical thinking skills and clinical decision-making.
Rising Star Awards: Vanessa Guzman, RN. These awards are presented to a novice nursing professional [graduation within 18 months] who delivers excellent care, exhibits great teamwork and passion for nursing, and actively works for performance improvement within the unit and by participation on councils.
Award for Advocacy: Joyce Peah, RN. This award is presented to the Registered Nurse who has made outstanding efforts in advocating for individuals or groups requiring our services.
Award for Nursing Leadership: Beth Pisula, RN. This award is presented to the Registered Nurse who demonstrates excellence in leadership, as evidenced by strategy development and implementation and resource management.
Award for Nursing Support: Karen Schneider, Unit Secretary. This award is presented to the nursing support professional who delivers excellent, person-centered care, advances teamwork, and models professional accountability.
Nursing Assistant of the Year: Rosalia Santiago, CNA. This award is presented to the Nursing Assistant who delivers excellent, person-centered care, advocates for patient safety, and fosters teamwork and communication.
