Mercy LIFE Expands Service in Delaware County
PHILADELPHIA (MAY 2) – For people caring for an elderly loved one, identifying the right long-term care option can be an overwhelming challenge. The decision can be especially difficult when you factor in the often unsustainable financial impact of long-term care. Mercy LIFE began offering its all-inclusive healthcare, recreation, nutrition and spiritual services to residents in Delaware County on May 1, granting seniors access to services they need while also enabling them to remain living independently in their homes.
Mercy LIFE, a subsidiary of Mercy Health System, provides complete patient care, from promoting physical wellness to spiritual and social fulfillment for every LIFE participant. Seniors who enroll in the Mercy LIFE program have easier access to healthcare services than ever before. Nurses, physicians and other healthcare providers work on-site to meet participants’ healthcare needs promptly and efficiently. LIFE seniors enjoy immediate assistance – without the typical wait period for a medical appointment or prescription refill.
Additionally, Mercy LIFE offers specialized home care to participants who need assistance getting ready in the morning. The program offers transportation to and from the Day Centers, and assistance at night preparing for bedtime – an invaluable service for busy working caregivers who can’t always count on being home at night or for seniors who live alone.
Mercy LIFE has provided total senior care, encompassing health and wellness programs as well as spiritual, social and nutritional counseling to Philadelphia seniors for more than a decade. The program’s participant-centered care model has reduced hospital readmission rates to below 7 percent as of January 2013, well below the national average of 20 percent.
In addition to convenient medical care, Mercy LIFE participants engage in social activities of their choice offered at each of Mercy LIFE’s three Adult Day Centers. Recreational therapists plan an assortment of physical activities for participants to enjoy including yoga, bocce ball and relay races. The program also offers unique cognitive therapies such as Pet Day with Caring Paws, card games, cooking classes and bingo tournaments.
Mercy LIFE also provides program participants with spiritual resources, hosting Communion services and pastoral counseling. The program’s new expansion into Delaware County will bring these life-enriching services to seniors and their families throughout the region.
With the Delco service expansion, Mercy LIFE is now available to seniors in Darby, Chester, Yeadon, Prospect Park, Wallingford, Woodlyn, Lansdowne, Sharon Hill, Garnet Valley and Ridley Park.
