Nazareth Hospital Announces 2013 Terry Larkins Memorial Scholarship Winner
NORTHEAST PHILADELPHIA (May 31, 2013): At an awards ceremony during Nurses’ Week, Nazareth Hospital announced this year’s winner of the Terry Larkins Memorial Scholarship, Karen Tranchitella, RN, of the hospital’s Short Procedure Unit. This scholarship is worth $2500 toward an academic nursing degree, which Karen is pursuing at Immaculata University.
The Terry Larkins Memorial Scholarship Fund was established by her family, friends and colleagues to honor the memory of Terry Larkins, RN, BSN, MSN, CCRN. Larkins was a nurse educator and nursing director at Nazareth Hospital and later at St. Agnes Medical Center whose infectious passion for nursing and professional development influenced many of her colleagues. Larkins died in a car accident the fall of 2002.
“The Terry Larkins Memorial Scholarship Fund keeps the memory of an amazing educator and nurse alive. Terry’s legacy is continuing to advance the professional development of Nazareth’s nursing staff,” says Vice President, Patient Care Services/Chief Nursing Officer Michael F. Beshel, MBA, MHA, BSN,RN-NE-BC. “It is such an honor to be part of that legacy.”
