NORTHEAST PHILADELPHIA (March 1, 2013): Nazareth Hospital welcomes four physicians from the Center for Advanced Orthopedics to Mercy Orthopedics: Timothy Amann, DO, Richard Mandel, MD, Dennis McHugh, DO, and John Pasquella, DO. The group brings an even greater breadth and depth of expertise to orthopedics at Nazareth, offering general orthopedics, sports medicine, hand surgery, and joint replacement.

Timothy Amann, DO, received his medical degree and completed his residency at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Amman also completed a Fellowship at the American Sports Medicine Institute in Birmingham, AL. He is certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Orthopedic Surgery. Dr. Amann treats general orthopedics but specializes in the treatment of all sports-related injuries. He is highly trained and experienced in arthroscopic treatment of the shoulder, elbow, hip, knee and ankle. He also treats many fractures, concussions and arthritic conditions.
Richard Mandel, MD, is a graduate of Jefferson Medical College and completed his residency at Jackson Memorial Hospital Trauma Center, Miami, FL, where he served as Chief Resident. He is Board Certified in Hand Surgery. Dr. Mandel specializes in hand, upper extremity, shoulder, arthroscopic and minimally invasive surgery. His specific areas of interest are in minimally invasive surgery, repetitive motion disorders and occupational injuries. During the course of his career Dr. Mandel has trained over 200 orthopedic surgeons and volunteered as orthopedist for musicians of the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra and the national wrestling champions of Germantown Academy.
Dennis P. McHugh, DO, completed his medical degree and residency at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, where he served as Chief Resident. He is Board Certified in Orthopedic Surgery. Dr. McHugh’s major areas of interest include adult reconstructive joint and minimally invasive surgery. This would include total hip and knee replacements as well as cartilage transplants, partial joint replacements and femoral resurfacing of the hip. His specific areas of surgical training also include general orthopedics, trauma, spine, hand and pediatric orthopedics. Dr. McHugh served as Assistant to the Team Physician for the Philadelphia 76ers.
John Pasquella, DO, completed his medical degree and residency at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. He was the Emanuel B. Kaplan Hand Fellow at New York University/ Hospital for Joint Diseases Institute. Dr. Pasquella specializes in the treatment of disorders pertaining to the hand and upper extremity. These disorders include overuse and arthritic conditions, occupational injuries and nerve and tendon problems. He also treats general orthopedic conditions and works with local college and high school athletic organizations.
