Mercy Health System Appoints New Chief Medical Information Officer
Conshohocken, PA (February 21, 2014): Mercy Health System has announced the appointment of Brian Hannah, MD, MS, CPHIMS, to the position of Chief Medical Information Officer. Dr. Hannah will serve as the physician champion to oversee the implementation and use of technology to improve the quality of care and patient safety. Dr. Hannah will be at the forefront of driving Mercy Health System’s innovative healthcare technology initiatives.
Dr. Hannah has over 12 years of practical experience in the implementation of health information technology in both the inpatient and ambulatory care environments, and 27 years as a practicing physician. Previously, as the CMIO for Aria Health, Dr. Hannah led major clinical information technology initiatives involving the development of acute and ambulatory clinical systems, computer physician order entry (CPOE), clinical order sets, e-prescribing and meeting compliance goals of “Meaningful Use” (MU) of technology.
He has demonstrated skills in integrating data to positively impact patient health. For the past year, Dr. Hannah served as Assistant CMIO for Universal Health Services, leading clinical implementations at UHS member hospitals across the United States. His clinical practice has focused on Internal and Emergency Medicine.
Dr. Hannah holds a Bachelor’s of Science in Biology from St. Joseph’s University, a Doctorate in Medicine from the University of Pennsylvania, and a Master’s Degree in Information Technology Leadership from LaSalle University. He completed his Internal Medicine Residency at the George Washington University Hospital and is board certified in Internal Medicine and Clinical Informatics.
He is also a “Certified Professional in Health Information and Management Systems” (CPHIMS) through the national HIMSS organization. Dr. Hannah is a member of the Philadelphia County Medical Society Editorial Review Board, Temple University Health Information and Informatics Advisory Board and “Crossing the HITECH Meaningful Divide – Stage II” Symposium Board.
A sought after speaker, Dr. Hannah has presented at many professional conferences, including the Pennsylvania Medical Society, CTA Health IT Advisory and the Regional Healthcare IT Initiatives Meeting.
