Mercy Fitzgerald and Mercy Philadelphia Hospitals Welcome Cardiac Electrophysiologist
Darby (February 10, 2016): Mercy Fitzgerald and Mercy Philadelphia Hospitals continue to expand cardiac electrophysiology services to treat cardiac arrhythmias with the addition of Devender Akula, MD.
Dr. Akula joins Mercy from the award-winning cardiac care team at Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center. He joins Marino Leonardi, MD from Mercy Cardiology and Darius Sholevar, MD, also of Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center, in providing electrophysiology services at Mercy. Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital, Mercy Philadelphia Hospital and Our Lady of Lourdes of Medical Center are all part of Trinity Health.
The cardiac electrophysiology team at Mercy uses the latest technology to pinpoint and eliminate even most the severe cardiac arrhythmias, such as atrial fibrillation. A comprehensive range of procedures, including diagnostic electrophysiology, simple and complex catheter ablation, pacemaker implantation, and implantable cardioverter defibrillators, are performed in the full-service electrophysiology lab at Mercy Fitzgerald.
Cardiac electrophysiology is a part of the complete continuum of heart and vascular services at Mercy Fitzgerald and Mercy Philadelphia Hospitals, which also include diagnostics, emergency care, medical and interventional cardiology, cardiac surgery in affiliation with the Penn Medicine Heart and Vascular Network, certified cardiac rehabilitation, and an active community outreach program.
Both hospitals have been recognized by The Joint Commission as a Top Performer on Key Quality Measures namely in the areas of heart attack and heart failure, as well as a recipient of the American Heart Association’s Get with the Guidelines achievement award for heart failure.
