MFH Inpatient Behavioral Health Receives Guardian of Excellence Award
Darby, Pa. (November 1, 2017): Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital (MFH) Inpatient Behavioral Health is pleased to announce it has been named a 2017 Guardian of Excellence Award® winner by Press Ganey. The Guardian of Excellence Award recognizes top-performing health care organizations that have consistently achieved the 95th percentile or above of performance in Patient Experience.
The Press Ganey Guardian of Excellence Award is a nationally-recognized symbol of achievement in health care. Presented annually, the award honors clients who consistently sustained performance in the top 5% of all Press Ganey clients for each reporting period during the course of one year.
One of the most impactful initiatives in driving excellent patient experience scores at MFH Inpatient Behavioral Health has been connecting a Peer Engagement Specialist (a Certified Peer Specialist by training) with inpatients daily from the day of admission through discharge, and for up to five days post-discharge. The continuity of care and relationship with each individual from onset to post-discharge has been a tremendous benefit to the patients. In addition, the department has held staff training and education focusing on helping patients with social, financial, and coping skills post-discharge.
“At Mercy, we work to put our patients at the center of everything we do, striving to always deliver an excellent overall experience,” said Susan Cusack, RN, MSN, PHD, executive director of Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital. “From customer service to patient-centeredness to care coordination among providers, we are committed to supporting the behavioral health of our patients and communities. I am very proud of the team for their commitment to serving those in our care and for putting them first.”
According to Cusack, the award represents an important recognition from the industry’s leader in measuring, understanding and improving the patient experience.
“We are proud to partner with Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital,” said Patrick T. Ryan, CEO of Press Ganey. “This award is a testament to the organization’s leadership in delivering patient-centered care. By achieving and sustaining this level of excellence, Organization continues to demonstrate their commitment to reducing patient suffering and advancing the overall quality of health care.”
