Dr. Eric Green, Associate Program Director of Internal Medicine at Mercy Catholic Medical Center, created a new method for helping international medical students communicate with American patients about their care. His findings are slated for publication in a leading medical journal in early 2013.

Gerald Moyer of Mercy Philadelphia Hospital Receives Sustainability Award
Gerald Moyer, Director of Plant Operations at Mercy Philadelphia Hospital, has led hospitalwide efforts to reduce the carbon footprint and improve the energy efficiency of Mercy’s 613,500-foot-square building, which helped it earn an Energy Star rating of 99, the highest possible, from the Environmental Protection Agency for 2011.

New Infusion Center Now Open at Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital
Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital opened its new Infusion Center for patient care on Octboer 22. The 1,744-square-foot Infusion Center features eight private treatment stations for chemotherapy and other infusion therapies, reclining chairs, flat-screen TVs, free WiFi access, and designated free parking for patients.

Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital’s Cardiac Patient Recounts Visit From Angel
In August, William “Bill” Pitts, a local man from Darby, was reunited with the Mercy Fitzgerald physicians, nurses and EMT personnel who helped save his life after her suffered a cardiac arrest and crashed his tow truck in front of Darby Fire Company #1. Recently, Delco Times did a follow-up interview with Bill, and spoke with him about his recollection of that day. During the interview, Bill shared his memory of being visited by St. Michael the Archangel.

Lorraine Bigony, MSN, RN, CNOR, ONC, Director of Perioperative Services at Nazareth Hospital, has authored an article entitled “Is Your Patient Ready for PACU Discharge?” The article appeared in the September 2012 edition of OR Nurse, a national, professional medical journal for nurses who specialize in surgical care.

Mercy Health System officially opened the doors to a new retail pharmacy in the Sister Marie Lenahan Wellness Center, on Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital’s campus, during a special ribbon-cutting and blessing ceremony.

Elderly Man Meets Rescuers For First Time In Emotional Reunion
Bill Pitts began to go into cardiac arrest in front of Darby Fire Company 1 where a paramedic and an EMT were on duty. They got to him right away and rushed him to Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital where they saved his life. Watch the video and read of this happy reunion.
