Mercy ACO and QHA to Receive $4.6m from CMS

Funds Awarded for Quality and Care Coordination Performance in 2017

CONSHOHOCKEN and LANGHORNE, PA (October 11, 2018): Mercy Accountable Care, LLC, and Quality Health Alliance, LLC, two local members of Trinity Health Integrated Care, a Medicare Shared Savings Program Track 3 Accountable Care Organization, are among those to share in savings for performance in 2017.

Trinity Health Integrated Care achieved $16.8 million dollars in savings for the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services (CMS) in 2017, its first performance year.

CMS awarded Trinity Health Integrated Care more than $12.4 million through this Advanced Alternative Payment Model (APM). Mercy Accountable Care will receive $1.6M and Quality Health Alliance will receive $3.0M.

“We are proud of this outstanding performance in our first participation year,” said Sharon Carney, MD, Chief Clinical Officer for Mercy Health System and President for Mercy Accountable Care. “We sincerely thank each and every one of our participating providers for their collaboration. Their participation and engagement have been critical to this success.”

Medicare Shared Savings program (MSSP)

The MSSP provides the incentive of sharing in the savings as a reward for providing high-quality care at a more affordable cost to a CMS-assigned Medicare fee-for-service beneficiary population. As a Track 3 ACO, Trinity Health Integrated Care participates in a two-sided financial risk arrangement that represents the greatest amount of risk among the three Medicare Shared Savings Program tracks. From one year to the next and depending on performance, Trinity Health Integrated Care—and other Track 3 ACOs—can either share in savings or have to repay Medicare losses.

Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs) in the MSSP generated $314 million in net savings to Medicare in 2017 after accounting for bonuses paid to ACOs according to MSSP performance data released by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). ACOs are expected to provide Medicare beneficiaries with high-quality coordinated care that includes getting them the right care when they need it, avoiding unnecessary service duplication and preventing medical errors.

“At Quality Health Alliance we are embarking on transformational change in healthcare by supporting our network providers as they deliver high-performing people-centered care‚” said Benjamin Chack, DO, President of Quality Health Alliance. “Our strategy is based on the fundamentals of Triple Aim with the goal of improving quality of care, practicing value and enhancing the patient experience.”

For efforts in 2017, Trinity Health Integrated Care ranked 12th out of 159 ACOs that achieved shared savings. Out of the 33 Track 3 MSSP ACOs in the country 16 achieved shared savings for performance year 2017, Trinity Health Integrated Care ranked 2nd.
