Walk-in screening mammograms for breast cancer at Mercy Philadelphia Hospital
No appointment needed for walk-in screening mammograms at Mercy Philadelphia.
If it’s time for your annual mammogram but your schedule is jam-packed, don’t worry: Simply stop by the mammography center on Thursdays at Mercy Philadelphia Hospital for a walk-in screening mammogram without an appointment.
“It’s really that easy,” says Marc Caballero, Radiology Clinical Manager, RT (R) (MR) (ARRT). “Mammography is essentially the most effective breast cancer screening tool used today. We believe this is a crucial step to further increase patient access and early detection.”
Walk-In Thursdays began at the Radiology Department at Mercy Philadelphia Hospital in October of last year. Now, it’s not only easy to have your mammogram, but you’re also getting the best care: Mercy Philadelphia has been designated a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology.
“Our hope is that we’ll create an environment for our patients that fits their lifestyles,” says Marc. “We hope that women will find it convenient to come in for their mammogram without an appointment. It’s easy.”
From start to finish, the mammogram exam takes about 30 minutes. The procedure is clearly explained, and patients are told what to expect. The Radiology Department at Mercy also provides a free breast cancer risk-assessment with every screening at no additional charge. This calculated lifetime risk is included in every patient’s final mammogram report that is sent directly to the referring physician.
“We’re extremely happy to provide our patients with another mechanism to aid the in early detection of breast cancer,” adds Marc.
WALK RIGHT IN Walk in to the Radiology Office at Mercy Philadelphia Hospital at 501 South 54th Street. Screening mammograms are offered with no appointment needed every Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
